Disturbed and frightened these creatures make loud blatts or bawls to warn their mates. Like all animals of this family, these creatures have two “noses.” The second nose is a diamond-shaped structure on the roof of the animal’s mouth or the vomeronasal organ that is used to taste the air.

These creatures have scent glands on the hooves of all four legs and the scent from these glands is used for communication. The scent becomes especially strong during the rut season.
