In a well managed, low predation situation the reproduction of Axis Deer rates 90% and the fawn survival reaches 95%. These creatures are considered to be the most beautiful cervids. They have a black dorsal stripe and are profusely spotted with white on a fawn background.

The babies of these animals are often left alone hidden in dense cover while the mother forages nearby and returns only to nurse them. Fawns begin grazing at about 5 weeks and become independent at 1 year old, but young females stay with their mother up to 2 years.
